Visualizing knowledge in Tokyo

Julkaistu

Hey there! Let’s start by setting you in the right mood.

Come in, Tokyo! Get it? Hehe, so good.

Now that you’re thinking about Tokyo, let’s get down to the more serious stuff. Basically my purpose here is to study visual knowing and knowledge creation with professor emeritus Ikujiro Nonaka’s wonderful colleagues. I’ve been studying knowledge creation for several years now (first in my Master’s thesis, then in my dissertation), and you can imagine how honoured I am to be able to work with some of the brightest minds in the field. In fact, I’m so excited about this that when I heard I received the funding from Tutkijat maailmalle initiative I almost peed in my pants. Now, after having lived in Tokyo for five months my pants are dry again, and I’m inspired by nearly everything and everyone almost on a daily basis.

During the upcoming months my aim is to blog here about my work, people I’ve met, and things that inspire me. Approach it as a window to my world as an academic researcher, if you will.

And finally, to conclude this post, I’d like to encourage PhD students in Finnish universities to go abroad. You guys have so many amazing funding instruments – like Tutkijat maailmalle, for example – to go abroad! Maybe you don’t realise it, but such possibilities are super rare amongst your peers in other countries. So while Nobel Prize-winner Shuji Nakamura is encouraging young Japanese to go abroad, why don’t you come here?

Stay tuned for more updates!
